Where it all began…

Where it all began…

I’m the type of person that has a million ideas floating through her mind. It’s like the Energizer bunny in my head sometimes it just won’t stop. That’s probably why I never did well in essay writing, I would start one idea then go to the next without completing the first.

I like to think I can be creative, but often I am too afraid to execute my ideas for fear of rejection, embarrassment or worst of all, in my mind it’s just not good enough. My husband is often forced to hear about my crazy ideas and usually laughs because most are outrageous, but he never discourages me, rather says try it out, or rather, start with baby steps.

Once Emilia was born, my world turned upside down. The first couple months of her being born it mainly consisted of me getting used to the idea of motherhood. Everyone can tell you what it is like, but until you’ve experienced it you really don’t know.

Don’t get me wrong I love being a mom. Emilia really is a great baby and I have no reason to complain. However, I do miss my own time. I don’t consider myself a selfish person, but I love my ‘ME’ time, even pre-baby. It’s a time when I can do whatever I want and no one judging me. Nowadays, I wouldn’t say that my ‘ME’ time is completely gone, but a rarity.

Once I got the hang of my new full time position, my crazy ideas started up again in my head. I probably wanted to change careers 5 times in the past few months, looking at all the different paths I could have taken. Instagram doesn’t really help either. I would start to follow all these great individuals and think, hey why can’t I do this? Or what if I tried that?

I realized I needed something just for me. Not because I was a mother or a wife, but because I was a woman who needed an outlet from her everyday life. I love to read and paint, but those are two things I don’t have patience for. It’s funny after motherhood, how much you change. I like to think that once my family is grown that I will go back to my once treasured hobbies.

Before Emilia was born, my husband and I purchased a DSLR camera thinking we are going to become professional photographers and document our child’s life like a pro. Once we opened the box (a week before Emilia was born), we had NO CLUE how to use this thing. I let James play around with it, and for several months I had no patience to use it any other way than in auto mode.

This is where blogging came in. I’ve always wanted to blog. It’s a chance for me to get out my ideas to the public, improve on my writing skills and just have fun. I started an education blog over a year ago, but that quickly fizzled. I love teaching, but it wasn’t what I wanted to share with the world.

That is where Simply Pure Simply Fresh came about. I wanted to showcase my abilities, to hold myself accountable on something other than my daily agenda and quite simply have fun.

Now that I started blogging, I have noticed an improvement in my photography skills. I’m no professional, nor do I want to be, but I just love a good photo! Don’t get me wrong, I still take a zillion photos of Emilia, but I am learning so much on how to use proper lighting, changing various settings. For example, I just learned that a low ISO setting is better for food photos.

I would love to hear from you what tricks you use when taking photos of food or of anything really. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
