Spring Cleaning my Makeup Routine

I love everything beauty. Having worked in the cosmetics department at Shoppers Drug Mart many moons ago, I would love when a new product line came in and couldn’t wait to test it out! The beauty industry is ever changing, but one thing does not and that is a clear and flawless complexion. We all want to achieve a face that is free of imperfections and looks like we have nothing on. The rest is just icing on the cake.

Nowadays my beauty regime has died down as I don’t have as much time in the day with Emilia constantly needing my attention. Basically I want to look healthy and flawless without making a fuss. I came across the Nordstrom Spring Beauty Trend Show on May 27th and thought it would be a great opportunity to see what’s new and trending for this year. I took my mother and we headed to Yorkdale mall at 8:00 am (BTW, I loved walking into the mall and no one was around).

There were a plethora of beauty products being showcased as the next big thing for Spring and I remember thinking how I couldn’t wait to try them all (my wallet not so much!).

Once the runway show was over, Nordstrom opened their doors and we were brought in to be pampered by the very products that were showcased minutes before.

I decided to begin my first stop at the DryBar station. I already use DryBar’s Blonde Ale shampoo (purple shampoo to maintain your blonde tresses) so I was aware of the line, but I wanted to see what else they had in store. I immediately fell in love with their Money Maker Hairspray and their Detox Dry Conditioner. The conditioner was a great way to soften my hair when it’s starting to feel a little dry and Money Maker gave the right amount of hold without feeling stiff.

The next stop was to Hourglass cosmetics. I wasn’t too familiar with their line, however I kept hearing that their primer was one of the best on the market and thought I would give it a try. Lisa, one of their national make up artists was so wonderful! She demonstrated both the primer and their new highlighting palette and I was in love.

Their Mineral Veil Primer helps to conceal certain imperfections, is oil-free and  leaves your skin feeling super smooth. It also allows any foundation you put on to become water resistant, which means better hold all day long.

The Ambient® Lighting Surreal Light Blush, Bronzer & Strobe Powder Palette highlights your face softly, giving you a simple glow for your everyday look.

What I use everyday religiously:

In the end, as a new mom I have narrowed down my daily make up routine to the basics. I begin with my Bare Minerals tinted moisturizer ( I love it because it gives the right amount of coverage while still moisturizing my face), I enhance my brows with my Benefit Gimme Brow gel and end with my new highlighting palette from Hourglass. The result is a very clean but flawless complexion that takes me no more than 5 minutes (because really that’s all I have).
